What Are Individualised Living Options?

ILOs empower you to live in a way that best suits your preference and lifestyle. On this, Advance Care Agency understands that everyone’s needs are different and hence has so specialized in formulating ILOs tailored towards meeting one’s personal needs. We are here to support you in the exploration and finding of varied living arrangements implemented to express your uniqueness.

How ILO Works

With ILO funding, you have the flexibility to:

  • Explore different living arrangements, such as living with a host or a housemate.
  • Customize your support system to align with your personal living preferences.

ILO provides a liberating range of choices. Whether you prefer to live with housemates or in a host’s home, our primary goal is to ensure your living arrangement is tailored to your needs, with funding designed to support you at different stages.

Stages of Individualised Living Options

At Advance Care Agency, we structure ILO support into two main stages:

Stage 1: Exploration and Design

In this initial stage, we assist you in exploring and designing your ILO supports. You will choose your living situation, your roommate, the kind of help you require, and who will give it. This stage culminates in the completion of a detailed service proposal form.

Stage 2: Implementation

The second stage is about putting the designed supports into action. The support provided will depend on your chosen living arrangement and specific needs. This will include non-funded support from family and friends, which might take the form of regular contact, domestic support, or emotional support. Your ILO supports are flexible and can be reviewed to change with your needs, thus providing security and confidence in your near and future living arrangements.

Choosing the Right ILO Provider

When selecting an ILO provider, consider the following:

  • Do they understand your needs?
  • Do they listen to you and explain things clearly?
  • Can they help you explore suitable home and support options?
  • Are they flexible and open to trying new approaches?
  • Do they offer tailored support rather than just suggesting existing services?
  • Are they committed to resolving any issues with your ILO arrangement?

You don’t have to use the same provider for both stages of your ILO, but involving the Stage 2 provider in preparing the service proposal form can be beneficial.

Getting Started with ILO Supports

To begin with ILO support, discuss your home and living goals with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or planner, who will guide you through the process and help you understand your options. You must provide relevant information and request changes to your plan using the Supporting Evidence Form – Home and Living. If your request meets the NDIS funding criteria, the NDIA will determine the level of support needed to explore and design your ILO package. The process will involve communication through the plan reassessment process before approval and addition to your plan.
