What is Home Care Packages?

A Home Care Package is a package of services provided by the Australian Government that supports older Australians to live safely and independently in their own home. The program is designed to support you with daily activities your care recipients may need assistance with, such as cleaning, showering, or attending appointments. All Home Care Packages recipients need an approved Home Care Package provider to administer the Government subsidy.

What services are included in a Home Care Package?

Services that CAN NOT be funded under the Home Care Package program include:

  • Household bills include the purchase of food, insurance or utility payments
  • Home appliances and white goods unrelated to ageing
  • Accommodation costs

Services that are funded under another government program

  • Medications, prescribed and over the counter
  • Dental care
  • Ambulance services
  • Medical services, including gap payments

Am I eligible for a Home Care Package?

To qualify, you must be 65 or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples) and need help with everyday tasks. Eligibility is assessed by My Aged Care and is based on your health and wellbeing, mobility, independence, and personal support networks.
